The May 2008 edition of the Health Gazette Ezine was published on schedule, today, May first. It has been emailed already and is also available to subscribers in the archive.

This month we discussed the problems caused by pharmaceutical drugs in an article titled: Medical Drugs and Toxicity - No Way to Heal.

In this edition we briefly discuss some of the known serious health problems that have resulted directly from the use of prescription drugs. The illness from drugs causes significant distress to people worldwide so it seems an appropriate topic on May Day, given the use of "Mayday" as the universal distress call.

The April edition of the Health Gazette Ezine was published on schedule, today, April first 2008. It has been emailed already and is also available to subscribers in the archive.

This month we discussed the importance of healthy fats and oils. Many people have been told to cut fats from their diets and unfortunately, that's exactly what they have done! Care must be taken when modifying dietary fats to ensure that ample essential fatty acids are still consumed.

In this edition we explain what good fats and bad fats are. Naturally, we don't just peddle the orthodox lines about cholesterol. Do you know what good and bad fats are? Do you know the risks from consuming bad fats? What about the risks from not consuming good fats? If you could use a few more details then why not subscribe to the Health Gazette Ezine -- it's free. Go here to subscribe to the Health Gazette. Just complete the form.

Health Gazette Ezine Edition March 2008 Available March 1st

The March Ezine Edition of The Health Gazette will be published on time, March 1st, 2008. The featured article this month is a little different from usual. It is titled: Mind-Body Connection: The Medical Blind Spot. It is one of those classic cases of a huge gap between medical rhetoric and the realities of practice. The article briefly traces this problem to the historical roots of Cartesian thinking and the erroneous beliefs about modern science.

Another issue addressed in the edition is the use of natural antibiotics. We answer a reader's question about natural antibiotic use for dental infections.

Could Health Freedom Return?

We at The Health Gazette recognze that health is unavoidably political. It affects people, it costs individuals and governments (public funds) a lot of money -- how could it not be political?

So we were interested to read a statement by Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas), Republican Presidential candidate for 2008, under the title "Health Freedom". Here it is:

Americans are justifiably concerned over the government’s escalating intervention into their freedom to choose what they eat and how they take care of their health.

This edition features an article titled Dealing with Memory Problems. Many people notice that their memory is not quite as good as it once was. However, there are many things that will help and these can be found in the article.

Whether you feel the need, have been advised to do something about your memory by someone concerned for your wellbeing, or simply want to enhance and make the most of your memory, you will find plenty of useful information in this month's edition. As with many other things related to your health and enjoyment of life, don't put off taking action to take care of your memory and overall mental functioning. Preventing decline is always a good idea.

Health Gazette Ezine Edition October 2007 Available October 1st

The October Ezine edition of The Health Gazette will be published on schedule tomorrow, October 1st.

The October edition has a main article by Dr jenny Tylee that explains why it is important for most people who consume a typical diet in western developed nations to eat less meat. Marketing campaigns like "Feed the Man Beef" and many others that promote alternatives to beef have been very successful. Furthermore, many people have come to regard the quantity of meat they consume as a direct reflection of the affluence they have achieved. Unfortunately this means that far too many people eat far too much meat.

Health Gazette Ezine Edition August 2007 Available August 1st

Yet another slow month on the Gazette site but we are pleased to announce that the August edition of the Health Gazette Ezine has been published on schedule, on August 1st.

The August 2007 edition focusses on solving gallbladder problems. Many people suffer from cholecystitis (gallbladder inflammation) and/or cholelithiasis (gallstones). Unfortunately, orthodox practitioners are quick to recommend cholecyctectomy (surgical removal of the gallbladder).

The main article in this edition presents some insights into why we need our gallbladders and why removal is not such a good idea in most cases. Dietary and herbal medicine approaches for dealing with gallbladder complaints are presented.

June was another slow month for this part of The Health Gazette. Indeed, our slowest by far. Fortunately our July edition of the Ezine edition will be published on schedule, today, July 1st.

In this edition we have a brief article outlining the many common chemical toxins to which almost everyone is exposed every day in the average home. We recommend avoiding them as far as possible. We also advise to keep internal cleansing systems in good working order.

At last, the Safe Colon Cleansing Your Good Health Guide 2 volume set is available.
Health Gazette Ezine Edition June 2007 Available June 1st

It appears to have been yet another low activity month here at The Health Gazette. Certainly in terms of posts here on the blog, it has been rather quiet I know. However, worthwhile activities have been going on in the background. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Now I pleased to announce that the June 2007 Ezine Edition has been prepared and will be published on time. Subscribers will already find it on the archive site and it will be in your mailbox very soon.

This month we take a look at essential fatty acids (EFAs). As someone pointed out recently, these have become the modern-day equivalent of vitamin C. They certainly do seem to be well promoted don't they? We examine just what they are and what they do, without the all too widely encountered hype.

Fluoride Linked to Gum Disease

Not long ago we discussed the problems related to fluoride use in humans in our ezine/newsletter edition. I have been alarmed by advocates of fluoridation who now are campaigning to extend the process to supplies of bottled water. Now we are seeing more research that raises serious issues of adverse effects on health caused by fluoride.

Scientists report a link between dental fluorosis and periodontal disease in the June 2007 Indian Journal of Dental Research. (1)

Dental fluorosis - white spotted, yellow, brown stained and/or pitted teeth - is a visual manifestation of fluoride overdose during childhood. Dental fluorosis afflicts from 1/3 to 1/2 of U.S. schoolchildren, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. (2)

Inhabitants of the Davangere district of India were studied where natural water fluoride levels ranged from 1.5 to 3.0 parts-per-million (ppm) which is similar to fluoride levels allowed in U.S. water supplies (up to 4 ppm). The sample consisted of 1,029 subjects between 15 and 74-years-old.

As the degree of dental fluorosis increased, periodontitis (advanced gum infection) increased. "The results suggest that there is a strong association of occurrence of periodontal disease in high-fluoride areas," write Vandana and Reddy.

Consumer Watchdog OCA Catches USDA Lowering Standards

It appears that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and related industry are attempting to sneak banned conventional ingredients into organic beer, sausage, and processed food. Do I care? Absolutely! Why? For two reasons basically: (1) it represents a serious breach of important principles and practices and (2) it is a laxness in applying standards that can spread more widely than the US.

The USDA has announced a controversial proposal, with absolutely no input from consumers, to allow 38 new non-organic ingredients in products bearing the USDA Organic" seal. Most of the ingredients are food colorings derived from plants that are supposedly not "commercially available" in organic form. But at least three of the proposed ingredients, apparently backed by beer companies, including Anheuser-Busch, and pork and food processors, represent a serious threat to organic standards, and have raised the concerns of the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), as well as a number of smaller organic companies and organic certifiers.

Consumers Unite to Voice Opposition to Food from Cloned Animals

A coalition of consumer, environmental and animal welfare organizations announced on May 3 the submission of more than 145,000 comments to the Food and Drug Administration from consumers who oppose the Agency’s proposed plan to introduce food from cloned animals into the U.S. food supply.

The Center for Food Safety, Consumers Union, Food and Water Watch, The Humane Society of the United States, the American Anti-Vivisection Society, Citizens for Health, the Consumer Federation of America and the Organic Consumers Association joined together to send a strong, unified message to the FDA that the public opposes the introduction of cloned animals in food. Today is the last day of a public comment period that began in January in response to FDA’s proposal to allow products from cloned animals in the food supply unlabeled. Members of the meat and dairy industries, and several nonprofit organizations urged the Agency to take time to consider comments from the widest possible sample of Americans in consideration of the untested nature of cloning technology.
